Financial Resources

Health coverage  may provide coverage for Speech-Language Pathology Services. Every plan at every company is different so you will need to investigate your coverage. Be sure to ask if a doctor’s referral needed, how much coverage you have and any additional information needed by your insurance company.

Your child may be eligible for the Disability Tax Credit and/or Child Disability Benefit. The CRA website or your accountant/financial advisor can help you determine your eligibility.

Information about Telepractice

Telepractice refers to the application of telecommunications technology to the delivery of speech language pathology professional services at a distance by linking clinician to client for assessment, intervention, and/or consultation (American Speech-Language Hearing Association).

Why our families enjoy telepractice:

  • Children enjoy playing interactive online activities.

  • Caregivers enjoy participating in therapy.

  • More than one caregiver or family member may observe and participate.

  • Convenient and saves time, as no travelling is involved.

  • Safest and best way to take extra precaution during times of uncertainty.

  • Equipment needed: desktop, laptop or tablet with camera and microphone, internet connection, and quiet undistracted space.

  • Secure and confidential video platform used; in compliance with PHIPA privacy guidelines.

  • Research has shown that teletherapy is just as effective as face to face speech therapy.

Check out this video from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association about the effectiveness of telepractice.

Health & safety for in-person appointments

The following practices are in place to ensure the safety of you, your family and your clinician:

  • Your speech-language pathologist is fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

  • Screening form must be completed prior to attending all in person appointments.

  • Social distancing of 6 feet or more will be implemented when possible.

  • Your clinician will wear a 3-ply mask at all times; and accompanying adult must wear a mask at all times. Children above the age of two must wear a mask upon entering and leaving their appointment.
    * Note, masks may be removed with consent from the guardian for the clinician or client to remove their mask, for therapeutic purposes.

  • The clinician will wash hands before, during and after the appointment.

  • Clients will wash hands before appointment and as needed.

  • High touch surfaces will be disinfected before each session.

  • Session materials will be disinfected before and after use with each new client.

  • Sessions will be limited to client and one caregiver.

  • Your clinician will cancel in-person appointment if she or anyone in her family has symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19.

  • In person session will be cancelled if client or anyone in your family has symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19.

  • In person session may be rescheduled at a later date, or a teletherapy session may be conducted instead.

  • Waterloo Speech and Stuttering Clinic is following Ontario Public Health recommendations.
